So there's this relatively new manga out, Veritas (Wiki Link), that's quickly fallen into my good graces. Thus far it's turned out to be fairly interesting, no shark-jumping, and a few principles introduced there, like focusing and distilling the "power" already within a person, and skill, instead of pure volume, and stamina. That's pretty neat. The main character comes across as a bit of a douche, but strangely enough he's likable. He's not too big of an asshole to be disliked (Black God), and he's not dumb enough to be Naruto.

The art's fantastic, like most of the manhwa I've seen, and I have to admit I'm falling more and more for the Korean drawing style. Not entirely sure what's up with it, probably the cross between lines and shading, with a greater focus on "realistic" looks. Basically it looks like the artists spend more time drawing than most japanese artists. Maybe it helps to have one person on story, and one on drawings.

I'm not too sturdy on the main story, but it's hinting at weird plots and so on that I don't really care for much at the moment (it's not that I don't like it, as in actually don't care about it. Not yet at the point where it's getting awsm), and the abilities and powers look fairly interesting. It's a martial art manga that focuses on the main character anyways, and I've always been a character-driven reader.

Quote
Kangryong is a high schooler unlike others. He has always had a dream of being the strongest. One day he meets Youcheon, who teaches him a powerful skill. One year later, people come to see him and announce that his "master" is dead. Because he was his only student, Kangryong has to follow them and go to a school where everybody has supernatural powers.

So, up to now, chapter 29, it's been a really awesome ride thanks to helz0ne. I'm hoping it'll continue for a while longer. At least it's something to read while waiting for more AIKI... ;P

superpowered school.                    minus for cliché
total = 0
I have no opinion at this time. I'll get back to you after the first volume finishes downloading to make one
edit, i have an opnion now:
"what, a kamehameha? yah pretty much" +1
worst writing i've seen in a long time        -1
amount of pure awesome manliness        +10

This series is glorious so far. not sensical or well done or even coherent but still GLORIOUS

fixed for you

i'd just like to point out that this series is horribly, horribly written. The plot doesn't even TRY to make sense. However the testosterone level is off the scale so we can forgive them skipping the boring parts Cheesy

Then it's just as well that I'm not paying much attention to it then Grin

I'm guessing it's one of those stories that will seem "trivial" in the beginning, where the hero get to be as casual and uncaring as possible without getting killed, but turn epic in scope as we go because the hero turns out to be some legendary comeback of a long forgotten god of the nether realms that decided he wanted a nap. . Or something fun like that...  Cheesy

Edit: and that made it sound like some mix between Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann and Tenjou Tenge ...

If the story introduction is "trivial", it'll have nothing to build off of later. The suspension of disbelief in this manga is so absurdly high that it doesn't even try to explain it, but just adding stuff on when its convenient for the author isn't my favorite story structure.  Look at One Piece, things introduced in the first chapter are still being fleshed out 10 years later, and HunterxHunter has the best damn fighting style full stop. I just don't see this ever getting deeper than a mindless shonen brawl manga. Then again, this is manwha, so anything could happen

Nothing wrong with a mindless shounen brawl manga as long as it's a fun mindless shounen brawl manga. It's like I like watching Armageddon with Ben Affleck because of him and the fantastic plot... No, it's because it's so flashy and braindead fun with a great score and lots of daft humour.

And as for the story, I'm giving it the benefit of the doubt. When checking it out now it keeps hinting about crap that's been happening in the past, and crap that will happen in the future, so there's no lack of story either.

ehh, i actually had a different martial arts supernatural shonen korean manga with cooler powers (psychic manipulation + martial arts) and a more explainable story suggested to me before this one called Zero. i'll get to veritas after Zero which i've been meaning to start for a couple months now. until then i have no further interest in this thread

I'm reading that too, which is fun as well. Besides that, I have no idea what your post is trying to tell us. And besides that again you've been checking out another manga as well, or was it this one you were checking out vaguely? Don't post for the sake of posting something.

Hahahaha, I can't believe how awesome this main character can be. I don't want to add any spoilers, soooo...  this is a fun chapter :>

Oh, and yeah, I'd be pretty fucking pissed off if someone came in and messed up my sweet, sweet meal too. Beating the shit out of someone that waltzes in like that would be priority #1 over any other antagonists I'd be meeting >.>

I disagree that mindless brawls can be fun, I've had my fill of manga just trying to appeal to 12 year old kids with flashy pictures. I'll concede that the main character is particularly badass though, korean influence?
my friend has been badgering me to read Zero for a while now so i'm not going to read Veritas, therefore i'm no longer going to contribute to a thread about a manga i'm not reading. and since i'm the only person other than you who posts here i thought i should let you know before you make posts nobody will follow up on. byebye

Incidentally, that was my reaction as well.

Zero comes across as a bit too broody for my taste. Fun, but still.

You don't know what you're missing. I personally, love it. The art is good and the fights are awesome. I check into it every week!
